It is with regret that I advise that Peter Collins will be leaving HIA shortly to pursue his career with a new entity. Since 2005 when Peter began his service as Branch Manager - Cairns, he has forged many relationships with members and staff colleagues. Those relationships have promoted HIA's presence and services to the region's residential building industry. Peter's last day with HIA will be 10 February, 2012.

I wish Peter the best of luck in all future endeavours.

Members are reminded that the State Government introduced a waste levy on commercial and construction waste late last year. The purpose of the levy is to reduce the amount of waste taken to landfill sites. The government has now introduced a support program to induce businesses to reduce waste. BUILDING BOOST GRANT EXTENSION

Remember - The $10,000 Queensland Government Building boost is available to buy or build a new home from 1 August, 2011 to 30 April, 2012.

QLEAVE

Employers in the building and construction industry in Queensland are required to register with the Building and Construction Industry Portable Long Service Leave Scheme (QLeave). The Scheme provides long service leave payments for workers in the industry, regardless of whether they work on different projects for one or more employers.
